Star names, in contrast to star designations, are proper names of stars that have emerged from traditional language usage of a diversity of languages, but foremost Greek, Indic, Chinese, Arabic and Latin. Star names fall within some few language categories:
- "Traditional" star names according to western culture, including Arabic star names, who are commonly used in books of astronomy, and to a less extent within professional astronomy,
- List of traditional star names - a pretty exhaustive list of generally acknowledged (but not always used) star names of the western culture,
- List of Arabic star names - a list of the western star names and their supposed Arabic origin,
- (List of) Traditional Chinese star names - a list of star names as used within Chinese culture and traditional methodologies such as Feng shui,
- Hindu calendar with Nakshatra asterism and star names.
